Gabriel Hoeffer Felix is a distinguished leader within the Comcaac community, with a rich heritage deeply rooted in the traditions and wisdom of his ancestors. His journey is marked by a profound commitment to cultural preservation and the empowerment of indigenous peoples. As a member of the Council of Elders of the Comcaac community, Gabriel embodies the values and teachings that have been passed down through generations. In 2003 he served as the Traditional Governor of the Comcaac Nation, showing his dedication to serving his people and advocating for their rights and wellness.
With years of experience as a Traditional Teacher, Gabriel guides individuals on their spiritual paths, imparting the knowledge of Comcaac shamanism. His wisdom extends to many realms, including the arts of healing, environmental stewardship, and the preservation of cultural heritage. As a respected speaker at numerous universities, he shares his expertise in traditional techniques for empowerment, particularly in the practice of shamanism. He is also a master of Comcaac astronomy, bridging the wisdom of the stars with the earthly practices of his community.
Gabriel hails from the northern lineage of Tiburón Island, where his extensive knowledge of marine and desert medicine has earned him recognition as a vital source of wisdom for his people. He is the Worldwide Director of the civil association OCEANOS NATIVOS, where he works tirelessly to unite indigenous communities and promote environmental conservation and traditional healing practices. He is also the founder of Grupo Tortuguero Comcaac, an organization dedicated to the protection and study of marine turtle populations, reflecting his commitment to wildlife conservation and education.
Throughout his career, Gabriel has traveled to many countries, sharing and exchanging traditional knowledge about healing and environmental management. His efforts have been pivotal in fostering collaboration among indigenous communities and promoting sustainable practices. His dedication to environmental issues has earned him several prestigious honors, including the Vat Wemme Environmental Merit Award, the Blue Ocean Award, and the National Environmental Award in 2019.
As a liaison between the eight communities of the indigenous peoples of Sonora and the Sonora government at CEDIS, Gabriel facilitates collaboration and ensures that the voices of his people are heard and respected. As Coordinator of the CAMINANTES EN EL CIELO project, he leads conversations and workshops exploring the interplay between the powers of the sea, desert, and nature, fostering international dialogue and cooperation.
Through his many roles, Gabriel Hoeffer Felix serves as a guiding light for his community and beyond, ensuring that the sacred traditions and ecological knowledge of the Comcaac people endure for future generations. His life's mission is to connect the past with the present, honoring the land, the sea, and the spirit of his ancestors while nurturing a holistic understanding of health, wellness, and the environment.
